Where are Canon cameras made?

Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation and has camera manufacturing plants in Taiwan and in Japan, which include factories in Oita, Miyazaki, and Nagasaki. Canon produces and assembles its flagship cameras and some lenses in both Japan and Taiwan. While Canon has had a camera manufacturing presence in Taiwan since the 1970s, it's recently begun to re-transition to producing its premium Canon cameras in Japan again. Still, there is no difference in quality between the products made in the two countries. Canon also has plants in other Asian countries where it produces electronic components for consumer-grade compact cameras and electronics.

Do all Canon lenses fit all Canon cameras?

Not all Canon camera lenses will fit all Canon cameras. There are five different types of lenses for Canon's interchangeable lens cameras including the RF, RF-S, EF, EF-S and EF-M.  To know which type of Canon camera lens you'll need, you need to identify your Canon camera type. Most full-frame Canon DSLR cameras will accept the EF mount series of lenses, while crop-sensor Canon cameras can accept both the dedicated EF-S lenses and the EF series lenses, with a crop factor. Mirrorless Canon cameras are designed to be compatible with RF series lenses. Canon lens adapters can be used by EOS R System and EOS M series camera owners for full compatibility with EF and EF-S lenses.  For official compatibility information, refer to the Canon Camera Lens Compatibility Guide or reach out to us and we'll be happy to help you find the right lenses for your Canon Camera.

A History Of Canon Cameras

In 1933, a small laboratory dedicated to making high-quality cameras was set up in a simple apartment room in the Roppongi area of Tokyo. At the time, all high-quality cameras were European with the majority coming from Germany. It was in this small room that young people with a big dream earnestly began their work on producing a high-quality Japanese camera, marking the beginning of Canon. Through hard work and with an enterprising spirit, they eventually succeeded in building a prototype, which was named Kwanon after the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The following year, in 1935, Japan's first-ever 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera, the Hansa Canon, was born, along with the Canon brand. Canon is a manufacturer of business and consumer imaging products which includes printers, scanners, binoculars, compact digital cameras, digital SLR and mirrorless cameras, lenses, video camcorders and cinema products.

The Business Solutions division offers print and document solutions for small and medium businesses, large corporations and governments. These include multi-functional printers, black and white and color office printers, large format printers, scanners, black and white and color production printers, as well as software to support these products.

Lesser known Canon products include medical, optical and broadcast products, including ophthalmic and x-ray devices, broadcast lenses, semiconductors, digital microfilm scanners, and Handy Terminal Solutions.

Canon digital SLR cameras continue to advance picture quality to greater heights. Combining decades of camera expertise with leading-edge digital technology, Canon develops such key technologies as interchangeable lenses, image sensors, and image processors.
